Royal Carribean’s newest baby, Symphoney of the Seas, is soon to be launched. It will not just be the biggest ship in the world, it will be faster too. The newest addition to the incredible shipping line Oasis Class of Ships, Symphony of the Seas will weigh at 228,081 tons, which is slighly more than its sister ships.
During a tour of the vessel at STX France shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, Rob Hempstead, the captain with Royal Caribbean, stated that a few changes in the design of the ship’s hull and the improved air bubble lubrication system will help the ship to cut through the waters easily and quickly. This will make the ship faster than its sister ship Harmony, which is the current world leader.
Hempstead also stated, "She's cleaner in the water. She makes less wave action, which allows her to be more efficient through the water." A few other changes include differently designed bow thrusters for improved handling, and new electronic programs to help in navigation.
Hempstead, who has been associated with the vessel since its initial testing said, "I can already see the difference. It's quite obvious. It's going to be a little smoother, a little quieter.” He also mentioned that such changes are common with every new vessel.
Comparing with Harmony, Symphony will be 1000 tons bigger and will come with many new exciting features. Other than an increased number of cabins, the ship will also have two-deck- high family suite with slide between floors. Symphony will be the first cruise ship to carry more than 6600 passengers and have dozens of lounges, bars and restaurants. It will also have a Boardwalk amusement area and a seafood restaurant, which will be the first for Royal Carribean.
Hoping to finish by March, Symphony will set sail in the Mediterranean out of Barcelona and then will dock at Miami to set out in the Carribean.
Royal Carribean’s Oasis Class vessels have been the talk of the town ever since they started debuting in 2009. One of the biggest in the domain of cruise ships, all three have been doing really well.
